Dublin workshop on measuring efficiency and performance of schools, hospitals and public services

The 12th International Workshop on Efficiency in Education, Health and other Public Services meets in Dublin on 15-16 October 2026. It looks at how to measure what public services really deliver.

The Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin hosts the workshop. It deals with the conceptual, methodological and empirical problems of measuring and evaluating performance in education, health care and other public services. Papers on efficiency, effectiveness and equity are welcome.

The keynote speakers are Francesca Borgonovi of University College London and the OECD, and Leonidas Kyriakides of the University of Cyprus. The sessions run from 9:00 to 14:00 local time. The call for abstracts and the registration period have closed, so interested readers should contact the organisers before planning to attend.

The topic matters for the study of value. Public services rarely have a market price, so their output is often counted by what goes in, such as spending and staff, not by what comes out. Efficiency measures try to link resources to results. They show where public money creates value for citizens and where it is lost.
